Trainspotting: the Powerhouse Museum Photo Competition

Trainspotting-logo.gif (4 KB)Amateur and professional photographers from around the world are invited to enter Trainspotting: the Powerhouse Museum Photo Competition 2010 for a chance to win $5,000 (Australian dollars) and be exhibited in the Powerhouse!

Share your passion for trains, railways and photography. Enter a photograph you have taken which captures railway infrastructure or locomotives powered by steam, diesel electric or electric.

The Trainspotting competition celebrates the Powerhouse Museum’s extensive rail and steam collection, and the 25th anniversary of Hunter Valley Steamfest this April 2010.

A panel will judge the entries based on composition, technique, content and creativity. The overall prize winner will be awarded $5,000 (Australian dollars) and category winners will receive $2,000 (Australian dollars). Winners and highly commended entries will also see their photo displayed in an exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum from May to August this year.

Trainspotting competition categories:

Steam trains: Photograph’s subject is either a locomotive, or locomotives and their carriages taken in daylight.
Diesel electric or electric trains: Photograph’s subject is either a locomotive, or locomotives and their carriages taken in daylight.
Night shot: Photograph’s subject is steam trains, diesel electric or electric trains and also railway stations and platforms (with or without locomotives).
Railway infrastructure: Photograph’s subject includes buildings and permanent installations such as stations, platforms, tracks, rail bridges, rail signage, turntables, and so on, taken in daylight or at night.
Trainspotting: Photograph’s subject is the hobby of observing and recording the numbers of railway locomotives, taken in daylight or at night.
Railway workers: Photograph’s subject is platform staff, train crew and staff, permanent way and infrastructure workers, depot workers and so on, taken in daylight or at night.

How to enter

There are 2 ways by which you can enter your photographs.

Online via the Powerhouse Museum group on Flickr

OR

By post or deliver in person to the Powerhouse Museum.

Winners will be announced at Steamfest in Maitland, over the weekend of 17 and 18 April 2010, and also contacted by the Powerhouse.

Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit.
